The impact of 5G on the IIoT(industrial Internet of things)

For ordinary consumers, the concept of 5G may be a higher network speed. The improvement of the Internet experience brought by the large bandwidth of 5G is the most intuitive. The application of the Industrial Internet of Things has only been able to stay at the surface of data collection and display and some management functions extended from it, and it is difficult to involve core areas such as the control of industrial systems, where the stability and delay of the communication system cannot reach requirements are the main constraint.
The investment in equipment in the industrial field is huge. Whether it is a machine tool, a production line, or a mechanical device, downtime caused by failures in the production process often affects the entire production line and even the entire product delivery cycle.

To ensure stability, the control system in the industrial field is mainly local, and a large number of hardware and software systems are deployed. On the one hand, the whole control system is very complicated and the investment is huge. On the other hand, it also limits the flexibility and scalability of the system. In today's fast-changing consumer demand, the update of the production system cannot keep up with the changes in consumer demand, and will also lead to missed many new opportunities.
The current mobile communication system is not deeply involved in the application of the Industrial Internet of Things. Although 4G has been greatly improved in network speed, it can meet the needs of users to watch videos at any time, but the reliability and delay of the network still have A lot of room for improvement does not meet the requirements of industrial scenarios.
The application of 4G in industrial scenarios is more a way to upload data to the cloud in scenarios where real-time requirements are not high. For example, machine tools and equipment in the factory will collect data every 5-10 seconds, and these data summary will generally be collected into a unified terminal, which will be sent to the cloud platform through 4G.
In order to ensure the stability of the data transmission of machine tools, in the factory, the connection of each machine tool and the unified terminal is generally wired. This connection method is still relatively heavy, and a large number of cables will also cause the internal structure of the factory to be more complicated. When the performance of the mobile network system is improved to replace the wired cable, the complexity of the internal structure of the factory will also be reduced, making it easier to manage.
5G's technical standards for industrial systems can meet these requirements. The extremely low latency guarantees the real-time monitoring and control requirements in the industrial field. The highly reliable network quality ensures the stability Requirements; large bandwidth can realize high-definition 3D video and even AR transmission, which greatly improves the operation accuracy in the field of remote control.
Because the number of 5G connections, the value provided, and the ability to pay are not comparable to the mobile Internet. So many people think that the biggest opportunity for 5G lies in the industrial Internet.
Although 5G technology is currently immature and there is still a long way to go for large-scale deployment and application, we believe that the direction of the 5G-enabled industrial sector is clear, and the future can be expected.
